File under creepy but so curious

There are things as a history buff and former death and the design world afficianado that one should’t get into. I have the dubious credit of having been at the forefront of tech and dead people early in my career, 2010 in fact, which was about as good of a conversation killer as, “Oh, I wasn’t in prison that long,” or, “You know, I don’t think people give urine therapy enough credit.”

But then there’s My Heritage’s Deep Nostalgia

Animate the faces in your family photos with amazing technology. Experience your family history like never before!

The historical examples are intriguing, and could go equally wrong. Sure, animate Abraham Lincoln telling fart jokes, but the real life application, like the dead dad examples I have in my head aren’t anything I want to go anywhere near.

The question really is, does this help or hurt? My guess is both. But that is exactly the question. Should we be enabling things that have bad potential to begin with even if they also have good?

I can imagine in some ways, it’s really helpful for people missing a dead family member. Then again I know the only way to get past grief is to go through it and let the memories live in your head where they belong.
